Common Running Injuries

Runner’s Knee

There is dull pain around the kneecap. The pain increases when running up or down the hill or stairs, or getting up after a long period of sitting.  The pain at the back of the ankle is usually caused by running up and down the hill, increasing running distance, the strength of core body muscle, flat feet, and weak quadriceps, making a creeking sound in the knees while walking.

Plantar Fasciitis

There is a sharp pain in the heels.  The pain escalates when you start walking after awakening or sitting for a long period of time.  But the more you walk, the pain will progress.  When the symptoms progress, it will be painful all the time.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome : IT Band

IT Band is a thick band of fibrous tissue on the side of your thighs which will contract with every stride that you take.  The symptoms include pain on the side of the hips, thighs and knees.

Shin Splints

Aches and pains come when there is pressure on the shin, especially after running.  Causes are distance and duration of running.  Moreover, shin splints may be caused by flat feet or running on a very hard surface as well as using worn out shoes.

Achilles Tendinitis

The pain occurs around the heel cord and runs up to calf muscles.  The main cause is that the Achilles tendon lacks proper stretching before running, as well as rapid increase in the time and distance.
