“Parkinson’s disease” is defined as a progressive nervous system disorder affecting movement. Parkinson’s disease develops when certain neurons in the brain gradually deteriorate or die. Symptoms are due to a loss of neurons that produce dopamine – a chemical messenger in the brain. When dopamine levels decrease, it leads to abnormal brain activity, including impaired movement and other symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, e.g. slowed movement, rigid muscles and impaired posture or balance. Screening of Parkinson’s disease results in an early diagnosis and timely treatment which substantially mitigates disease severity and improve patient’s quality of life.
